COMMON QUESTIONS

Can I customize the Media Gallery?
The Media Gallery was designed to be as easy to customize as possible. There are numerous ways and many different levels of customization possible. You can use our control panel to customize items such as your logo, title, tagline, favicon, slideshow transition speed, and social media widgets and analytics code. If you want to get into deeper customization, you can change the color scheme and styling using the commented CSS file. Additionally, if you are familiar with CakePHP, you can delve deeper into the code to make more advanced customizations.
Can I change the order of the albums?
By default the gallery lists albums by chronological order, with the most recent album displayed first. You can change the order of albums by changing the date or editing the album.
Can I upload more than 50 items at a time?
You can upload as many items at a time as you like. The restrictions on this are set by your server. However, there is a sync limit of 50 items at a time. This means that if you upload 80 items, you will have to perform the sync twice to ensure all items are registered within the album. This is to ensure that the load on the server isn't too great. You can also upload an unlimited number of files to any given album using ftp. Additionally, if you have access to your php.ini file, you can change the upload limit if you believe your server will handle the increased load comfortably. You will also need to make changes to the albumcontroller.php file. Note that we cannot take responsibillity for any changes you make to any of the system files.
How do I add descriptions when I use the drag and drop option?
Yes, you can add descriptions to any media file in your gallery by simply going into the album with the media in question and clicking on the Edit Item icon at the top right of the media in question. You must be logged in as admin in order to do so.
Can I use FTP to upload my items?
Yes, you can upload items via ftp. For large albums this may be the fastest option. You will have to create the albums using the control panel, then locate the album folder on your server and upload the items there. Once complete, simply sync the album using the control panel album sync option. The location of the album folders is [Your Gallery Folder]/app/webroot/album/" )
Can I add my Facebook photos into the gallery?
There is no direct way to add Facebook photos into the gallery. You will have to download the photos from your Facebook albums and then upload them to your Media Gallery. There are tools available online that can facilitate the Facebook photo download process.
What is the default maximum file size I can upload?
The maximum file size for uploads is 250MB. However, your server may have completely different limits. Some servers have maximum files sizes of 4MB. If you are having problems uploading files, please contact your server administrator and ask them to increase the maximum upload file size.
What is the maximum number of files that can be uploaded at a time?
There is no maximum number of files that can be uploaded at a time, using the drag and drop upload method. However, your server configuration may put its own limits on uploads. If you have selected a huge number of files and you are having trouble with it, then it is likely that your server will not allow it. This is particularly true if you are uploading large files. Try reducing the number to 100 or 50 at a time.
Can I select a specific photo as the thumbnail for an album?
Yes. To select a specific photo as your album thumbnail, make sure you are logged in. Locate the photo that you would to represent your album. At the top right of the photo, click the image icon that says "Set as Album Thumbnail" when you rollover it. That's it. That image is now your album thumbnail.
Why can't I see the changes I've made to my Media Gallery?
Sometimes changes you make to your Media Gallery don't appear immediately. You may have to refresh the page or even clear your cache for certain changes to appear.
How can I put custom thumbnails for videos?
To add a thumbnail to your video, make sure you're logged in, then locate the video in question. Click the Edit Item icon at the top right. Click on the Thumbnail button on the right, just below the video. Select the image you would like to use as your thumbnail and Save Changes.
Why can't I view my newly created album?
ALbums are only visible to the public when they contain items. Therefore if you created an album and have not yet added any items to it, it will not show up in the album view. As soon as you add an item, it will automatically show up.
What file types are compatible with the Media Gallery?
The Media Gallery is compatible with png, gif, jpg, mpg, mp4, flv, and mp3. All other file types will be ignored.
How are updates handled?
Major updates for the Media Gallery are handled as separate versions and charged accordingly. When an update is provided it will be made available for purchase and you will be notified if you have opted-in to our mailing list.



CUSTOMIZATION

How do I add my logo?
To add your own logo, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Click on the Update Logo button and select your logo from your computer. It's that simple. Note that the logo must be in png format and that its optimal size should be 79x71 pixels, however other sizes will be scaled to fit the designed space. We do recommend that you try to respect the optimal size to ensure the highest quality for your logo.
How do I add my favicon?
To add your favicon, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Click on the Update Favicon button and select your favicon from your computer. Note that the favicon MUST be an .ico file and should be 32x32 pixels.
How can I add my Facebook feed?
To add your FB feed, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the Facebook Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by Facebook. Note that you only need the second part of the provided code, as the header code has already been added to the Gallery's files.
How can I add my Twitter feed?
To add your Twitter feed, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the Twitter Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by Twitter. Note that you only need the second part of the provided code, as the header code has already been added to the Gallery's files.
How can I add my Google+ feed?
To add your G+ feed, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the Google Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by Google. Note that Google+ might require that you put two codes in different parts of the page, usually one in the header/footer and one where you want the widget to appear. This is the second space.
How can I add my LinkedIn account?
To add your LinkedIn feed, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the LinkedIn Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by LinkedIn. Note that LinkedIn might require that you put two codes in different parts of the page, usually one in the header/footer and one where you want the widget to appear. This is the second space.
How can I add connect my YouTube account?
To add your Youtube feed, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the Youtube Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by Youtube. Note that Youtube might require that you put two codes in different parts of the page, usually one in the header/footer and one where you want the widget to appear. This is the second space.
How can I add other widgets?
To add additional widgets, simply go to the admin control panel using the gear icon at the top right. Locate the Additional Widget Code input field and enter the code provided to you by the 3rd party such as mailchimp or feedburner or other. Note that these 3rd parties might require that you put two codes in different parts of the page, usually one in the header/footer and one where you want the widget to appear. This is the second space. Alternatively, you can use any of the widget input fields to add any widget of your choosing. You will however, need to replace the relative logo associated with the specific field (ie. the Facebook Widget Code input field is tied to a FB icon. You will have to replace that if you use the FB input field for any other widget but FB's). The location of the widget icons/logos is [Your Gallery Folder]/app/webroot/images. Make sure to keep the same image name. (ie: if you're using the FB widget area to put a Mailchimp widget, make sure that the Mailchimp icon is called fbicon.jpg as seen the aforementioned folder).
How do I change the color scheme?
To change the color scheme of the Media Gallery, you will need to make changes to the CSS file. There you can make any number of changes in terms of colors, fonts, etc. The CSS File Location: [Your Gallery Folder]/app/webroot/css/madesimple.css Note: MadeSimple is not responsible for any damages to the Media Gallery caused by any CSS or other customizations. We recommend that you make a full backup of any file you plan on modifying before you make any changes.
How can I integrate the gallery into my current site layout?
In order to integrate the gallery into your current website, you will have to use apply your website's CSS styles and elements to the Media Gallery. If you are familiar with HTML/CSS/PHP, this should not be problematic. If not, you may contact us for implementation services. We're happy to help.



OCCASIONAL ISSUES

Why won’t my videos upload?
The most likely reason a video will not upload is because your server has limitations on the maximum file size that can be uploaded. Try uploading a smaller video to see where your server limits are set.
Why can’t I use the multiple item upload?
The Media Gallery requires that FileInfo be installed on your server in order to allow for the multiple upload feature. Many servers have fileinfo installed by default, however, if your server does not, you can contact your server admin/host and ask them to install it, or you can install it yourself. Otherwise you can use the ftp method to upload multiple items into your albums.
Why can’t I add my logo?
The most likely reason that your logo can't be added is because it's either a corrupt file, or it is not in .png format. The system will only recognize .png files for the logo. Additionally, please note that being able to view the logo requires a cache flush, it might take a few hours for the change to be visible on your end.
Why can’t I install the software?
On some occasions clients have encountered server related issues when installing the software. If you run into installation problems, try setting the permission in the following folders to 755 or 777:
[Your Gallery Folder]/app/Config/
[Your Gallery Folder]/app/Controller/
[Your Gallery Folder]/app/tmp/
[Your Gallery Folder]/lib/Cake/Cache/
